Searching & Filtering Your Inventory

As your household inventory grows into hundreds or thousands of items, finding what you need quickly is paramount. StowFindSell offers multiple powerful ways to pinpoint items in a fraction of a second.

1. Global Search (The Fastest Method)

The fastest way to find a specific item is using the Global Search tool located in the top navigation bar.

  1. Click the Magnifying Glass icon (or the Search Bar if you are on a Desktop computer).
  2. Start typing. The search engine is dynamic and instantly looks for your word across multiple fields:
    • Item Names ("Teddy Bear")
    • Item Descriptions ("Blue stuffing, missing left eye")
    • Location Names ("Attic Bin 4")
    • Categories ("Sporting Goods")
  3. Clicking a search result instantly opens that Item's Detail screen or navigates you directly to that physical Location room.

2. The "All Items" Data Table

For a comprehensive review of your entire inventory at once, click All Items in your navigation menu.

This page displays every single item in your household in a dense, spreadsheet-like data table.

Sorting columns

You can click the header text of any column (Item Name, Category, Location, Grade, Value, Date Added) to sort the entire table alphabetically or numerically.

Pro Tip: Sorting by Est. Value in descending order (highest to lowest) is a brilliant way to prioritize which expensive items you should add photos or receipts to for insurance readiness.

Filtering by Interactive "Data Pills"

You do not need to use the Global Search if you just want to browse a specific type of item or a specific room.

The All Items view features interactive buttons called Data Pills.

  • Categories: Look at the "Category" column. Clicking any category pill (e.g., the blue Electronics tag) will instantly filter the entire table to show only Electronics.
  • Locations: Look at the "Location" column. Clicking any location pill (e.g., the grey 📍 Garage tag) will instantly filter the table to show only items stored securely in the Garage.
  • Clear Filters: A "Clear Filters" button will appear directly above the table whenever a filter is active. Click it to quickly return to viewing your full database.

3. Finding Hidden "Archived" Items

If you previously archived an item (because it broke or you gave it away), it is intentionally hidden from all default views so it doesn't clutter your daily dashboard.

To find an archived item:

  1. Navigate to the All Items view or a specific Location page.
  2. Near the top right of the data table or item grid, you will see a toggle switch labeled Show Archived.
  3. Turn this toggle on. Your historical, archived items will instantly reappear in the list, completely intact.

4. Visual Location Inspection

Sometimes you don't know the exact name of an item you are looking for, but you know which physical room or box it is inside.

  1. Navigate to your central Dashboard.
  2. Click on the specific Location card (e.g., "Guest Bedroom").
  3. The Location Page will display a visual grid of every individual Item assigned to that room, alongside its high-resolution cover photo.
  4. If that room has smaller containers inside it (e.g., "Guest Closet"), you will see those containers listed. Click into a container to dive deeper into the physical hierarchy of your home, just like opening Russian nesting dolls!
